Saw this entry recently and it really had me in splits. Reminded me of the good ol' days at my undergrad college in Salem.
So here are some priceless contributions from that bastion of higher learning in South India - GCE Salem (aka Karuppur Engineering College to those in the Circle of Trust):
1. Olarifications: Blissfully ignorant misuse of the English language structure, grammar & such
- What??....You putting joking??? --- I.Gnanambaal ( or more "simply" known as IG )
- Gentlemen, why you all sitting in the back row and leaving the front hollow? --- Prof. VS
- Adding zero and zero carefully.... you get zero! - Prof. Jothiram
- I then asked the bank manager " Where are my sex and where is my sex book?" - Raju (Mech) who obviously had a major problem with his "ch" and always pronounced it as "s" . He was at the bank asking about his "check" book and his "checks" !!
- If I like you, then what will you do??? --- Prof. VS, (also NCC in-charge) "advising" a cadet who was late for Parade, and asking him how it would be if he (VS) also came late for the Parade !!!! Complicated stuff,eh? :-)
- Then the jolry shop owner told me, Saar, I know you...You are College Frofessor, so you can come recently and pay the money --- Raju, about his experience in a "Jewellery" store, when he didnt have enough money for his purchases and how the owner obviously told him to pay the money later because he was after all a College 'P'rofessor ( Raju had a problem with his "p"'s too !!! )
Sample Classic Conversation:
Scene -- Mrs.IG is taking the first class for a new batch of Electrical Engineering students (Third Semester)
IG :What is the main reason you want to study in college?
Student 1 : To gain knowledge???
IG :That everyone knows, gentleman....but what is the mainnnn reason??
Student 2 :To develop good character????
IG jokingly(?) :Why?? Your parents did not teach you to get good character???
Student 3 :To learn to become independent???
IG has no idea what that means :That is there...but main reason??
One by one, every student in the class is made to answer, but no one is able to give a "satisfactory" answer.
Finally, IG with a victorious smile on her face gives the magic answer :TO GET DEGREE....YOU STUDY IN COLLEGE TO GET DEGREE!!!
